The pomp and circumstance gets underway:

Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver takes the oath of office and receives an embrace from Murphy.

“We are the best state to live and work in and raise a family in, hands down,” says Oliver, who described herself as optimistic about the future.

“Of course, the job is far from done, and there is still much to do,” she added. “I still see the need for more affordable places. …I see municipal leaders looking to us for guidance.”

Oliver acknowledges the COVID-19 pandemic with a nod to the governor.

“You have led us in the right direction and I thank you for your steady leadership in protecting public health,” the lieutenant governor says.

She pays homage to the women of New Jersey.

“I want to congratulate all women across the board who have been elected and appointed to positions of public service,” Oliver says. “It is equally important to build the bench. I encourage women and girls to keep going. Don’t be discouraged by barriers that seem to hold you down. You have the same limitless potential as any other person on this earth. Keep breaking glass ceilings.”

The Murphy children appear at the podium.

The eldest son, Josh, acknowledges First Lady Tammy Murphy.

“I have to give major props to the engine room. Without her, the show does not go on. …Mom, I am always in awe of your super powers.”
