Long-Time Trenton Veteran Sonia Das Joins AMG as Vice President of Government Affairs
The Advocacy and Management Group (AMG) this morning announced that longtime state government veteran Sonia Das is joining the Trenton-based firm as Vice President of Government Affairs.
Das will add more than 15 years of government and political experience to AMG’s team of professionals.
“We’re extremely excited to have someone with Sonia’s breadth of experience joining our team,” said AJ Sabath, AMG Co-Founder. “Throughout her lengthy career working for some of the top leaders in state government she built a reputation as someone who is honest and thorough with a masterful understanding of policymaking. I know she will provide this same level of service to our clients.”
A graduate of the University of Washington, Das worked for some of the top leaders in both the executive and legislative branches of New Jersey government before founding DasWorks in 2016, a firm that specializes in legislative and regulatory consulting.
“I’m honored to be joining the Advocacy & Management Group family,” Das said. “AJ and his team have cultivated an impressive roster of clients representing diverse interests across our state. I’m looking forward to putting my experience and broad contacts to good use advocating for their needs.”
Das began her career working on political campaigns in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She then transitioned into government work during Governor Jim McGreevey’s administration, where she served as an Advance Communications Representative. She went on to become Assistant Press Secretary for Governor Richard Codey and later served as a Senior Research Associate in the New Jersey Senate Democratic Majority Office.
In the Senate, Das was in charge of overseeing the State Government, Waging, Tourism, and Historic Preservation Committee, focusing on legislative matters pertaining to public employees, elections, pensions, and gaming. It was during this time that she became an expert on gaming issues, helping to craft legislation that rewrote casino regulations, stabilized the horse racing industry and opened the door to legalize sports betting in New Jersey.
She then went on to serve as Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg’s Chief of Staff, managing the legislative agenda for the second highest ranking member of the Senate. She founded DasWorks in 2016. Das and her wife, Janet, reside in Lawrenceville, New Jersey with their son Aaron.
