Malinowski Victorious in Somerset
MANVILLE – Securing the final organizational puzzle piece in the CD 7 Democratic Primary, Tom Malinowski of Rocky Hill tonight won Somerset County to add to his arsenal of party power.
By a show of overwhelming support to correct what he initially failed to secure in this Central Jersey county, the former assistant secretary of state defeated Goutam Jois and social worker Peter Jacob for the county organization line, claiming what Linda Weber scored earlier this year, prior to unraveling in the aftermath.
Weber dropped out after losing Union, and Malinowski this evening scarfed the second of two county lines she had claimed.
Tonight, she sat in the audience.
And now Malinowski owns all the counties on his way to facing U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-7) in the general.
Hunterdon, Warren, Morris, Union, Essex, and Somerset.
“We’re tired of the Lance dance,” Malinowski said in his speech in the VFW Hall here in this town where the usual scraps of Popeye’s and Wal-Mart come punctuated with a water tower that sits downtown, where pre-Twitter feed men in this train track bisected factory burgh used to actually settle scores with their fists.
There was no immediate word about Jois’ plans. Social worker Peter Jacob appears poised for a full-fledged off-the-line run.
The final CD7 count was Jacob 7 and Jois 24.
When the delegates rose with their cards at the prompting of Somerset County Democratic Chair Peg Schaffer, she acknowledged too many to count.
Malinowski had won.
In other county convention news, Somerset Democrats will run Shanel Robinson of Franklin Twp. and Sarah Sooy of Bernardsville for freeholder this year. Sooy is the daughter of Bernardsville Mayor Kevin Sooy, who just switched parties from R to D and received a standing ovation at tonight’s convention.
