Mandelblatt and Gunderman Poised for Organizational Support in LD21

The power center in the Union County Democratic Party supposedly leans toward Westfield attorney Lisa Mandelblatt and Stacey Gunderman from New Providence to take on incumbent Republican Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick and Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz.

Democratic Chairs in the 21st Legislative District were receiving phone calls this weekend summoning them to support the ticket, a source told InsiderNJ.

It would stand to reason that state Senator Nick Scutari (D-22), who chairs the Democratic Party in Union, would back at least Mandelblatt, who ended her CD7 Congressional bid last year prior to the organization backing eventual winner Tom Malinowski.

On the night she bailed on her congressional run, Mandelblatt backed Malinowski. Summit attorney Goutam Jois – who was also said to be interested in an LD21 run this year – remained in the primary.

UPDATE: The Union County Democratic Party Screening Committee this weekend indeed opted in favor of Mandelblatt and Gunderman as the establishment candidates to go up against Bramnick and Munoz.
