Mayor Gusciora Declares a City of Trenton State of Emergency

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora calls for federal action to fight gun violence after 6 people are shot in one night.

Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today declared a State of Emergency for the City of Trenton following the recent outbreak of COVID-19 throughout the Garden State.

The declaration reads as follows:

“To all City of Trenton residents, as of 12:01am today, March 14, 2020, in consultation with the City’s Emergency Management Coordinator (OEM Coordinator) and the Superintendent of Schools, the City has declared a State of Emergency within the City of Trenton as we continue to deal with the local and regional presence of the COVID-19 virus, commonly known as Coronavirus.

This decision is consistent with the State of Emergency declared by the President of the United States[1], by New Jersey’s Governor[2], and by the Mercer County Executive[3], and is the result of ongoing collaboration and consultations between my office, the OEM Coordinator, City Administrative Departments, Trenton Public Schools Superintendent, County of Mercer OEM Coordinator and other local, regional, state health and emergency management officials, and federal representatives; and is intended to help contain the spread of COVID-19 as the number of cases in the state and region grows.  A State of Emergency in the City of Trenton has been deemed necessary to ensure the continued provision of essential services to our residents during this ongoing and developing health emergency.”

The declaration also puts forth guidance and actions for City departments in preparation. Many of the steps outlined were taken in the weeks prior.

  1. I’m glad to see the Mayor taking proactive measures. Most residents I’ve talked to either have their heads buried in the sand, are misinformed (relying on fb for info…smfh) or don’t realize/believe the level of severity…all recipes for disaster! Maybe City Council should get more involved and make sure their constituents are thoroughly informed! In order for this to work it will take more than a few articles from the mayor (that a lot of people don’t read)…this also falls on City Council if they can stop being petty and infighting long enough! The handling of this crisis will determine who’s really competent in our local government and we will remember! All eyes on u City Hall…
