Mayor Wilda Diaz to Announce Re-election Bid in Perth Amboy

Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz will endorse U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders for President, a decision that puts Diaz against the bulk of the Middlesex County Democratic Committee, which supports the presidential candidacy of U.S. Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey.

Wilda Diaz will announce her candidacy for re-election as Mayor of Perth Amboy, Monday August 17 at 11 AM. Mayor Diaz will also announce her running mates at this time.

Diaz was first elected Mayor by defeating long time Mayor Joseph Vas, who was termed unbeatable at the time. Since then Diaz has earned a reputation for stabilizing taxes while maintaining an A+ credit rating and creating jobs for Perth Amboy residents through economic and redevelopment efforts in former abandoned brown-fields. She has also focused City investments in community programs that address the quality of life concerns for residents of all ages, but specifically the elderly and young.

She has been an outspoken advocate statewide for issues of economic and racial justice, immigrant worker-justice, the creation of union jobs and increasing the min-wage to $15 per hour.  She has been a leader in engaging and educating Perth Amboy residents on COVID-19 health crisis and advocating for investment for the small business community during the pandemic.
