Mazzeo and Amato to Gilliam: ‘Begone’
Running for reelection in LD2, the incumbent Democratic Assemblymen said they want disgraced youth basketball program thief Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam to kick himself to the curb.
“Mayor Gilliam broke the public’s trust and he cannot continue to serve as Mayor of Atlantic City. He should do the right thing and resign immediately,” said Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo (D-2).
“We have seen some great progress in Atlantic City and it is a shame that it’s overshadowed by the Mayor’s scandal. He needs to resign and fresh leadership is needed in Atlantic City,” said Assemblyman John Armato (D-2).
Republican Assembly candidates Phil Guenther and John Risley issued the following statement regarding Mayor Gilliam’s guilty plea.
“Today’s guilty plea by Mayor Gilliam makes clear we need a fundamental change in Atlantic City. Our opponents Vince Mazzeo and John Armato have said everything is going well in Atlantic City and oppose efforts to change the form of government. We disagree. Atlantic City is corrupt and incompetent and we need reform now so our regional economy doesn’t suffer any further from the lack of leadership by Murphy, Mazzeo, and the Democrats who are running Atlantic City into the ground. Business as usual is no longer acceptable.”
