McClellan Thrilled to have Trump in Wildwood

Antwan McClellan of Ocean City.

Assemblyman Antwan McClellan (R-1) was on his way down to Wildwood for this evening’s rally when InsiderNJ gave him a call.

McClellan won his assembly seat last year in a victory over the “Van Drew Team” that put incumbent U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew on notice.

Van Drew changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.

Freshman Assemblyman McClellan said he plans to be at the rally later this evening.

“I’m excited,” he said.  “The amount of people willing to stand outside – it says a lot.”

What did he think about Van Drew’s party change?

“I was thrilled, not to have to worry about going up against him,” McClellan said. “Jeff Van Drew is always about the people. If you needed him, he would be there for you. I’m thrilled he’s on our side of the line.”

The Republican assemblyman from Ocean City said he expects Trump to get reelected.

“I think he does,” McClellan said. “He has had an opportunity to get out and make the economy do better, and he has shown he’s going to fight for the people.”

The Republican cited Democratic Party infighting as part of the reason why Trump will be successful in 2020 and argued that impeachment hurts the opposition cause.

“If the people are unhappy, they will vote him out,” said McClellan, not rely on the actions of federal partisan lawmakers.
