Menendez Polling Memo: Senator Starts with a 47-33% Lead Over ‘Any Republican’
A poll conducted for Menendez for Senate shows U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) starting 2018 with a 14-point lead over any Republican 47-33%, according to a polling memo obtained by InsiderNJ hours after the feds sought a dismissal of the Menendez corruption case.
“He is currently winning among men, women and all age groups, and enjoys substantial margins of support among minority and union-member voters,” the internal poll finds. “Even after voters learn about his mistrial last fall, Senator Menendez maintains a 6point lead, and once voters hear more about his background and record his lead expands to 17-points (51-34).”
The memo landed even as the GOP appears to have mostly coalesced around pharma executive Bob Hugin.
According to the memo, Menendez’s job rating among all voters shows that 54% approve, while 36% disapprove. His job rating is strong among Independents (51-38%) and “even stronger among Democrats (71-19).” Voters give Menendez high marks for standing up to Trump and the Washington Republicans, viewing the President unfavorably by 64% of voters, compared to 34% with a favorable view.
Menendez starts the race with strong Democratic Party support.
Menendez for Senate starts the year with over $4 million cash-on-hand. Based on the Senator’s robust fundraising in previous cycles, the Menendez for Senate campaign will be sufficiently funded start to finish. There is also a plan in place to spearhead robust fundraising for Victory18, the coordinated campaign of the NJDSC, will also provide the resources needed to mobilize voters throughout the state.
With additional fundraising support from Governor Murphy, Senator Booker and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the senior Senator “will be able to lead a dynamic effort to identify and activate voters who are looking to change direction and flip control of Congress to the Democrats,” the polling memo concludes.
And just think—- that’s *before* the Senate Ethics investigation!
