Mimms Withdraws Freeholder Intent, Backs Incumbents

Paterson At-Large Councilwoman Lilisa Mimms will not run for Passaic County freeholder this year.

“In anticipation of a vacancy on the Passaic County Board of Chosen, I submitted a letter of intention for this opportunity,” said Mimms. “However, after prayer and thoughtful consideration, I’ve gracefully decided to withdraw my letter of intent to run for the position of Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholder.

“I stand in full support of those candidates running for re-election,” added Mimms. “As I continue to have  a sseat at the table as Councilwoman-at-Large in the great city of Paterson, I will continue to work to ensure that from every level of government that we build bridges and not walls!”

Incumbent Freeholders Bruce James and T.J. Best are running for reelection.

There was initially some question as to whether or not Best would run again this year.

But Best this past weekend told InsiderNJ he will run.

“After consultation with family, friends and community leaders as well as the encouragement and support from our State and County Chairman John Currie, I have decided to seek re-election for a 4th term on the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders,” said James’s running mate.

“It has been both my honor and privilege to have been chosen by the Passaic County Democratic Committee, our Chairman, my neighbors and fellow county residents to serve their interest over the past decade and I plan to continue doing so. I submit my name for re-election knowing that our county government is better today then it was when I took office due to the collective efforts of my colleagues and our knowledgeable and hard working staff who I hope to continue to serve with. The BEST is yet to come!”
