Super Bowl weekend and the Morris County freeholders – is there anything more exciting than that?
Probably not.
Now with one-time Freeholder Heather Darling the county surrogate, Republicans have to replace her on the seven-member board.
That is set to occur Feb. 1 at a convention of GOP county committee members at County College of Morris in Randolph. The deadline for candidates to express interest in the seat is 3 p.m. on Jan. 14.
So far, four Republicans have said they want to be a freeholder.
In no particular order, they are Alison Deeb of Morristown, Tayfun Selen of Chatham Township, Christian Barranco of Jefferson and Melissa Florance-Lynch of Pequannock.
More candidates can always surface before next week.
Scheduling the convention was not as cut and dry as some would think.
With virtually all municipal meetings held Monday through Thursday nights, the county committee wanted to hold its convention on Friday night or Saturday morning to avoid conflicts. So, it asked committee members for their preference and Saturday morning it is.
