Mukherji Calls Grewal AG Pick ‘Both Historic and Poetic’
Hudson County Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D-33) celebrated the imminent announcement by Governor-elect Phil Murphy of Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal as his nominee for the position of state Attorney General.
InsiderNJ first reported on the development here.
“The governor-elect’s decision to nominate the fist Sikh attorney general in the country is both historic and poetic since the person carrying out the governor-elect’s plans t challenge Trump’s unconstitutional and divisive directives will be wearing a turban in court,” Mukherji told InsiderNJ.
“But Gurbir’s nomination is so much bigger than race or religion because there is no prosecutor more honest, humble, talented, or in line with Murphy’s pro-social justice ideology than Gurbir,” the assemblyman added.
In a fiercely competitive process, Gurbir beat out a field that included attorneys Ricardo Solano and Phil Sellinger and Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. Former U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman evidently pushed for him, even as U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is said to have worked the phones for the politically connected Sellinger.
