PARAMUS – Bedlam.

Actually, it was one guy, or a handful.

“Democracy is fair,” explained Bergen County Democratic Committee Chairman Lou Stellato.

“This is kind of like church – if you’re going to stand, stand quietly,” the chairman advised.

Someone was shouting again.

Stellato dug in with the microphone onstage.

Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler had just finished a speech reminiscent of the Al Pacino fire-up in Any Given Sunday.

“We’re in hell now, gentleman,” Pacino said in that speech.

Kugler did a variation on that, adding the word “ladies.”

There was U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell.

U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer strolled the big room.

Senator Paul Sarlo appeared.

The two candidates batted questions back to the crowd.

It was hard to hear them as people mulled and socialized.
