Murphy and Kim Duel in Somerset

MANVILLE- Tonight, the “Tammy and Andy Show” decamps in this Somerset County town that Joe Biden visited in 2021 to look at flood damage.

Those “in the know” say this will be a good night for the First Lady.

The Democratic convention here comes a day after a Monmouth Poll said Tammy Murphy has better name recognition, but that Andy Kim has a higher “favorable” rating.

As is the norm, supporters for both candidates rallied outside the convention site, a local VFW hall.

Kim joined his supporters and was asked if he had any qualms about missing the State of the Union address tonight in Washington.

He said he plans to watch a replay and said his appearance at the convention demonstrates his commitment to the race.

There was an immediate dispute as soon as the convention began.

A committee member rose and moved to vote via secret ballot as opposed to the planned public vote.

The motion was quickly seconded, but it went no further than that.

Peg Schaffer, the county party chair, refused to entertain the motion.

“The rules are very clear,” she said. Voting will be public.

It was previously explained that committee members are elected officials, and as such, people should know how they vote.

Somerset is an outlier on this issue as many party conventions this campaign season have been conducted by secret ballot.
