Murphy Campaign Lays into Kim Over Non-Participation in TikTok Vote
Tammy Murphy’s campaign today upbraided Rep. Andy Kim for missing a national security vote to force a company controlled by the Chinese Communist Party to sell its interest in TikTok.
Kim was the only member of New Jersey’s Congressional delegation not to support the bipartisan bill.
“Once again Andy Kim is proving that when New Jersey families need him to stand up for us, he can’t be bothered,” said Murphy campaign spokesperson Alex Altman. “Allowing a platform with the massive reach and influence of TikTok to remain in the control of an adversarial foreign government presents a real threat to national security, but instead of joining every other Democrat in New Jersey’s Congressional delegation and taking action, Andy Kim couldn’t be bothered to show up and vote. The pattern is clear — whether it’s refusing to stand up to Donald Trump – or in this case, siding with Trump’s position on TikTok – or to show the leadership needed to protect our families and our society from disinformation, New Jersey can’t count on Andy Kim. In the Senate, Tammy would absolutely be a champion for New Jersey’s families and support this bill to protect our data from being sent to an adversarial foreign government.”
Congressman Kim has now missed 36 of 86 scheduled floor votes in 2024, a shocking absentee rate of 41.8%.
“If he doesn’t want to do the job that New Jerseyans elected him to do, he shouldn’t be asking them for another one. It’s clear he only cares about the title and not New Jersey’s families,” Altman continued.
“Kim told the New Jersey Monitor in a statement from his office that he would have voted against the measure, saying there are more steps and deliberations needed before moving forward with a ban.
“’If we are concerned about what TikTok can do with accessing and controlling Americans’ data, I’m concerned about what any corporation or entity can do with it. I previously called on my colleagues in Congress to take a comprehensive approach instead of this piecemeal effort to protect data privacy writ large and address the serious concerns about the public safety risks of social media.’”

This Republican-controlled House has been the least productive legislature in modern history. It’s March and they’ve passed absolutely nothing. (86 scheduled votes? So what?) Andy Kim has a record to run on, including two of the most courageous votes any member of the House can take: voting to impeach Donald Trump 2x while serving in a NJ district Trump won 2x by double digits. Tammy Murphy is running on her connections to the rich and well-connected, and is putting this Senate seat at risk with her vanity project.
Republicans currently have a razor-thin majority, one of the tightest in history. Every Democrat needs to show up to vote, period. There’s no excuse for Kim missing nearly half his votes, especially if he’s dodging his commitments just to attend fundraisers and further his own political career.
There’s a reason why the U.S. Congress (Legislature) is designed to slow-walk legislation. This inertia was specifically designed by our Founding Fathers to stop any emotional, knee-jerk legislation that any one party or parties tried to push through–that would damage this country. Apparently, it is the Democrat-Communist Party and their useful idiot voters whining the most about not getting legislation passed. All one has to do is look at the legislation and see why it should not be passed–pet projects, funding for all types of and asundry radical left-wing groups, promoting abortion, promoting destruction of the U.S. Constitution, promoting destruction of the 2nd Amendment, trying to make D.C. and P.R. states when there is no constitutional provision allowing it, packing the U.S. Supreme Court, giving asylum to 10 MILLION illegal parasites (California gave 3 MILLION illegal parasites asylum without question back when Reagan was governor, and California became and remains a Socialist-Communist state).
