Murphy Says His Veto of South Jersey Board had Nothing to do with Sweeney Spat

Following his decision this week to veto the minutes of a South Jersey board populated by the allies of Senate President Steve Sweeney, Governor Phil Murphy denied that it anything to do with his ongoing game of political chess with Sweeney.

“It has nothing to do with the senate president,” Murphy told reporters today in North Brunswick.

According to the Politico report, the Governor axed the minutes after the directors refused Murphy‘s request to cut ties with the agency’s general counsel.

Murphy explained that he gave the board a heads-up, noting that “We don’t like the process and procedure you’re pursuing here.”

“Full stop,” Murphy insisted.
