TRENTON, N.J. — After spending the past 16 months working to build the New Jersey Democratic Party, New Jersey Democratic State Committee Executive Director Liz Gilbert (pictured, above) will be stepping down to take a position with the Milwaukee DNC Host Committee. In her new role as President and Executive Director of the Committee, Gilbert will oversee fundraising and other day-to-day functions as the Democratic Party prepares for the 2020 Convention and the next presidential election.

“Since joining our team in 2018, Liz Gilbert has been a tremendous asset in building a stronger and fairer New Jersey,” said Chairman John Currie. “Her determination and vigor played a key role in helping us elect an 11-1 Democratic House majority and re-elect Senator Bob Menendez this past November. Liz is a dynamic and seasoned strategist and has led our party to many great successes. There is no person more qualified to help organize the 2020 convention and I wish Liz all the best in her future endeavors. She will be sorely missed here in New Jersey.”

Gilbert played a role in Governor Phil Murphy’s campaign team, acting as the campaign’s National Finance Director and Surrogates Director, and Chief of Staff to Tammy Murphy. She has previously held positions on President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign and on a gubernatorial election in Texas, in addition to senior roles at the 2016 and 2012 Democratic National Conventions.

“When we recruited Liz to join our campaign in 2016, it was clear that we were getting a rising star in Democratic politics,” said Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy. “Liz’s knowledge, work ethic, and professionalism impressed everyone, and she has played a critical role in all of our success to date. Under her leadership, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee saw unprecedented electoral and fundraising successes. We congratulate the Milwaukee Host Committee on finding the right person to serve as their Executive Director, and we look forward to continuing to work with Liz in the years to come.”

The Milwaukee 202 Host Committee is a project of the Good Land Committee, Inc., a 501(c)(6). Gilbert will be leaving NJDSC effective July 1. Her replacement will be announced at a later date.

“Working with Chairman Currie, the Murphy family and the entire team at the New Jersey Democratic State Committee has been the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Gilbert. “Together, we have shown the entire nation that by joining forces for the common good, we can accomplish great things. When I first joined this team of incredible and remarkable Democrats, my priority was to help strengthen and unify our state party. I truly believe we have accomplished this goal, continuously standing up to the hateful and discriminatory policies coming out of the White House. It has been an honor to serve New Jersey Democrats as the Executive Director for the past year and a half and I look forward to continuing my work of building our party in this exciting new role.”

“Liz has made a lasting impact on the State party and was a huge help in turning Somerset County light blue,”  said Vice Chairwoman Peg Schaffer. “While, I am disappointed that I will not have the opportunity to work side by side with her in continuing the party’s growth, we will all benefit from her efforts on behalf of the Convention host committee.
