NJPBA State Board Backs Trump for President

The night before his impeachment acquital in the senate, Trump delivered a speech that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would rip in half immediately after his delivery.

The New Jersey State Police Benevolent Association (PBA) today voted to endorse President Donald J. Trump for president, refrained from issuing an endorsement in the U.S. Senate contest, and backed all Republican candidates in congressional contests.

The endorsements by the state PBA against the backdrop of the Black Lives Matter movement in the aftermath of the police killing of George Floyd represents a reversal from 2017, when the board backed democrat Phil Murphy for governor and mutliple legislative Democrats. The board backed Democrat Mikie Sherrill in 2018, as well as Josh Gottheimer.

In the words of one insider:

“I mean, the National Union, that’s one thing, but the state unions have usually been much more supportive of Dems because of their support for labor unions.”
