Norcross to Preside over the U.S. House for the First Time

Congressman Donald Norcross, who serves on the United States House Committee on Education and Labor, offered his support for the Raise the Wage Act. Democrats argue that passage of the act will increase the national minimum wage, which will lift people out of poverty and stimulate the economy.

Today, April 1, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m., U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1) will preside over the U.S. House of Representatives. As Speaker pro tempore, Norcross will manage suspension votes on the House Floor.

“Presiding over the House of Representatives is a great honor and privilege, and I thank Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the opportunity to take the gavel,” said Norcross. “The American people voted for a Democratic Majority in the House to build an economy that works for everyone and to make government accessible – and as I take the gavel as Speaker pro tempore today, I am doing so on behalf of all South Jerseyans.”

It will be his first time with the House gavel in hand.
