U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-9) today reacted to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) announcement that the House is proceeding with impeachment of Donald Trump and will soon be introducing articles of impeachment.

“No one should mistake why we have arrived here at this moment,” Pascrell said. “The hearings we have held so far have revealed a constitutional crime spree by the sitting chief executive unparalleled in our national history. At no point during our investigation has an adequate defense been offered that explains or exonerates Donald Trump’s corrupt acts. Even standing upon the threshold of the third presidential impeachment, the corruption endemic in our government is not abating but actively accelerating.

“This impeachment proceeding is itself an act of patriotism. The leadership of Chairman Schiff and Speaker Pelosi especially will be marked kindly by history on the level with Peter Rodino and Sam Ervin. Because none of us are moving forward because this is what we want; we are moving forward because we must if we have any wish to preserve the integrity of this government for future generations. We’re acting because we have no other choice.”
