Many on the train are regulars, having made the trip every year since the 1990s.

But then there’s Andre Sayegh, the mayor of Paterson.

“This is my maiden voyage,” Sayegh  said as he maneuvered through the congested aisles.

The mayor was upbeat.

“I always want to promote Paterson,” he said, adding that he extols the city’s virtues to everyone he meets. And on this day he was meeting lots of people.

But there are also other things on his mind — like baseball.

An ardent Mets’ fan, Sayegh is predicting 88 wins for the team this year. A bit optimistic perhaps, but the mayor likes looking on the bright side.
