Paterson Seeks Resolution Honoring Beloved Principal Glisson
On Tuesday, July 21, the Paterson City Council will vote on a resolution to rename the Bauerle Fieldhouse in honor of the late Dr. Gerald Eugene Glisson. Sponsored by Council Vice President Dr. Lilisa Mimms and co-sponsored by Councilwoman Ruby N. Cotton and Councilman Luis Velez, the resolution honors a a man of distinction who was passionate about imparting knowledge and wisdom to the next generation and beyond.
During his tenure as an educator in the Paterson Public School District, Dr. Glisson worked as a Special Education Teacher, Teacher Assistant to the Principal, Vice-Principal, and the Principal of Great Falls Academy for Alternative Education. His last appointment was as the Principal of Operation of the Eastside High School.
Dr. Glisson’s love for the youth was undeniable. He has led the Omega Teens Program for the past 7 years in the City of Paterson, where the members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. provide leadership development, social development, and big brother support for male youth from ages 8 to 18.
On May 3rd, 2020, Dr. Glisson died from complications of COVID-19.
“Although Dr. Glisson is no longer physically with us, his love and passion will not be forgotten,” said Mimms. “Through the renaming of the Bauerle Fieldhouse, the City of Paterson will be
forever reminded of Dr. Glisson’s great legacy.”
