Vice President Mike Pence today praised New Jersey Governor Murphy over the state’s efforts to combat the coronavirus.

Speaking at the White House’s daily COVID-19 briefing, Pence commended Murphy, saying “New Jersey is very much in the forefront of the coronavirus in America today” and “we want to commend the Governor for his extraordinary leadership in the state’.

Saying that during the briefing today he was informed of the state’s latest efforts, Pence singled out Murphy’s executive order temporarily reactivating retired medical personnel in the state to help in the COVID-19 effort.

Pence said that he had spoken to Murphy this weekend, and that the Governor had told him that the state surpassed the number of lives lost on 9/11.

“It breaks our heart to think of that, and our hearts go out to all of the families of the more than 10,000 Americans who have succumbed to the coronavirus”, said Pence.

The NJDOH reports that as of Monday April 6th there are 41,090 COVID-19 cases and 1,003 fatalities statewide.
