Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz Breaks from Middlesex County Dems to Endorse Bernie Sanders

Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz will endorse U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) for President at an event in her home city scheduled for Saturday, InsiderNJ has learned.
The endorsement pits Diaz against the bulk of the Middlesex County Democratic Committee, which supports the presidential candidacy of U.S. Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey.
The state’s lone Latina mayor who originally won the mayoralty when she knocked off powerful incumbent Joe Vas in 2008, Diaz was spotted earlier this year at a Sanders rally in Monmouth County.
Now, she is ready to formalize her support for the progressive Democratic candidate for President.
Diaz is close to Analilia Mejia of Elizabeth, formerly the executive director of Working Families, who now serves as the national political director for the Sanders for President Campaign. Mejia is confirmed to speak at the event.
