Piscataway Mayor To Pence, Cabinet: Invoke The 25th Amendment

Bedlam at the U.S. Capitol.

Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler tonight called on Vice President Pence and members of President Trump’s Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office. Citing today’s storming of the Capitol by pro-Trump protestors, Wahler says he wants ‘insurrectionist enablers held responsible’ and denounced the protestors as ‘fascist supporters’ of Trump.

The mayor’s full statement is below:

With a reprehensible band of miscreant neo-confederates having stormed the Capitol at the behest of Donald Trump, Piscataway Mayor Brian C. Wahler joins many throughout the country in calling for Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to recognize the clear and present danger of the 45th president by invoking the 25th Amendment.

“Donald Trump is not only incapable of upholding his oath to faithfully execute the powers of his office, he is actively working to undermine the Constitution rather than defend it,” Wahler said. “The Congress was in midst of exercising its constitutional obligation to count the certificates of the Electoral College. With great malice driven by his insatiable ego, malevolent desire to circumvent a valid election, and reckless disregard for the safety of those who serve in the legislative branch, Trump directed hundreds of his fascist supporters to halt the essential work of our duly elected representatives and senators.”

“The United States Capitol, the most prominent symbol of democracy and liberty in the world, has been tarnished by the malignant stench of domestic enemies having breached its heralded chambers,” Wahler continued. “American democracy has never been safe from the criminal and autocratic manipulations of Donald Trump, and our very republic cannot be secure with his continuance in office.”

Furthermore, Mayor Wahler also seeks the New Jersey congressional delegation to work to expel those in Congress complicit in today’s insurrection from their federal offices.

“Those in Congress whom have seditiously plotted with Donald Trump to foment violence at the expense of our democratic institutions must be held responsible for their malicious misdeeds,” Wahler said. “They too should no longer serve in a position of public trust and the House and Senate must each root out the traitors to democracy in their midst.”

The 25th Amendment’s Section 4 states:

‘Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.’

  1. right but you didn’t have anything to say when BLM bullies were threatening Rand Paul and his wife and demanding he “say her name” in fact you condoned that largely violent, ignorant and outrageous movement by vandalizing the streets with their logo which is visible from space! Then you ignorantly tarnish the name of the people who lived and fought for their home states in the south by calling these people “neo-confederates” You are seething with a hatred that I am sure was no less extreme before this happened and a personal issue with him..It is scary how much you blow out of proportion his role in the violence..and really funny after you Democrats got done stoking the fires of all the riots that happened this year…pot call the kettle black much?
