‘Pissed off’ Singh Announces Second Bid for NJ Governor
If you can’t become a U.S Senator, why not try governor?
That’s what Republican Hirsh Singh is doing. Singh announced his candidacy for the GOP’s 2021 gubernatorial nomination in two appearances this morning on New Jersey radio stations.
Employing the customary rhetoric for such things, Singh vowed to throw Phil Murphy out of Drumthwacket and send him back to Massachusetts. For the record, Murphy lives in Monmouth County, although he grew up in Massachusetts.
Singh ran in this year’s Senate primary, losing by about 8,000 votes to Rik Mehta, who was soundly beaten last week by Cory Booker.
Singh, by the way, unsuccessfully challenged the primary rules in state court and most recently, has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. He contends that the governor violated the constitution by instituting a mostly vote-by-mail election. There’s no guarantee, of course, that the court will hear the case.
In his primary campaign, Singh lashed out at Mehta, who he considered a Democrat at heart, and the GOP party establishment.
This morning, he talked about how the primary and last week’s election were both “rigged.”
“I’m pissed off,” Singh said as he railed against a “corrupt” system.
Also seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination is Jack Ciattarelli, a former state senator. Jon Bramnick, the Assembly Minority Leader, and Doug Steinhardt, the chair of the state Republican Party, are also possible candidates.
