100+ NJ ACTIVISTS HEAD TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO PROTEST GOP PUSH TO CONFIRM KAVANAUGH

NEW JERSEY– Over 100 NJ activists boarded buses in four locations across the state in order to join thousands expected to rally at the steps of the Washington DC District Courthouse and march toward the US Supreme Court in opposition to the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The action was organized in less than 36 hours in response to the assertion by Senate Majority Mitch McConnell that the Senate would vote to confirm by Friday despite an ongoing FBI investigation. The buses and action were organized by New Jersey Working Families Alliance, which hosted an urgent action alert call with Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman to apprise New Jersey activists of the state of play on the battle to prevent the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh which many believe is credibly accused of sexual assault.

“In under 36 hours NJ activists and organizations responded to the call to action, and hoping to prove that direct action can and will protect the institutions in which our government is based.” said Analila Mejia, Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance which organized both the action call and buses to Washington D.C.

In addition to marching on Washington D.C., local groups including New Jersey Working Families Alliance, Make the Road NJ, NJ7 Forward, NJ11th for Change, Westfield 20/20, New Jersey Citizen Action and dozens more have pledged to continue their opposition to Judge Kavanaugh and the culture of intimidation gripping the Senate and Congress by working to turn out the vote in key electoral contests. Activists have also launched a website, NJBelievesSurvivors.org in their effort to share information on upcoming volunteer canvasses as well as to share up to date information on the battle to prevent the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh.
