10th District Legislators Support Bipartisan Bills to Ensure Businesses and Families Stay Afloat

Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano expressed their support for legislation under consideration by the Senate and General Assembly to address the public health, safety, and welfare of our residents. The devastating COVID-19 pandemic is crippling businesses and putting economic strains on families throughout the state.

The legislators have released this statement:

“We are committed to working on both sides of the aisle to make necessary decisions in the best interest of our residents during this time of crisis. We understand that the economic impact of this virus is far reaching and financial difficulties are inevitable for those working fewer hours as schools and businesses are required to close.

“In the best interest of our legislative district we support the proposals under consideration by the General Assembly and discussed by the Senate President which include: a payroll tax holiday to temporarily increase paychecks for workers and reduce expenses for employers; extending tax filing deadlines and waiving penalties and interest for filings and payments that are made late; and allowing small businesses to keep a portion of the sales taxes they collect during and immediately after the emergency to help them stay open.

“We know these are trying times for our constituents. However, we have been tested before and have witnessed the economic impacts of school and businesses closures. If 9/11 and Superstorm Sandy taught us anything it’s that the residents of the 10th District and the rest of this state are resilient and we will return to normalcy in time. Together, we can slow the spread of this virus with social distancing, hand washing and using telemedicine.”
