1199SEIU Caregivers Get Out the Vote for Andy Kim, Slam Tom MacArthur’s Healthcare Record

In a fundraising missive sent out this afternoon, Rep. Andy Kim described anonymous phone calls that were made to voters in NJ's Third Congressional District aimed at casting doubt on Kim's trustworthiness ahead of the 2020 election.

WILLINGBORO, NJ—With just one month before Election Day, 1199SEIU nursing home workers are mobilizing en masse to support Andy Kim as he seeks to unseat Tom MacArthur in NJ’s 3rd Congressional District. On Saturday, caregivers met with Kim before spreading out across CD3 to talk to voters about this incredibly important congressional race.

“I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and I find it totally inexcusable that Tom MacArthur led an effort that would have allowed insurance companies to discriminate against me for my illness,” said Jerry Christensen, a certified nursing assistant from Willingboro. “Andy Kim has made protecting access to health care a key part of his pledge. For me and my family, there’s a lot riding on this election which is why I knew I had to get involved in a big way.”

“The choice facing our communities couldn’t be clearer—either we elect Andy Kim as our voice in Congress to be a champion for quality, affordable healthcare, or we continue to be represented by someone who tried to take healthcare away from millions of people,” said Zerica Gardener, a certified nursing assistant from Barnegat Township. “As a nursing home caregiver, I know how important it is to protect Medicaid so that my elderly patients can get the quality care they need every day.”

“I’m humbled to receive the support of the caregivers of 1199SEIU, who play an essential role as caregivers to our communities’ most vulnerable,” said Kim. “I look forward to working together as we look to build a future where every American has access to affordable, comprehensive health care.”
