13 Emerge NJ Women Running in NJ Primary

Trenton, NJ—Emerge NJ, the state’s premier organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, announced it has 12 women on tomorrow’s primary ballot in races from County Committee to Congress. The Emerge alums who win their primaries will go on to the general election in November, providing new representation on the campaign trail and competing in some of the most important elections in the state.

Emerge alums on the ballot share unique backgrounds and identities that will bring much needed perspectives to elected offices in NJ. Eleven are members of the New American Majority–Black, Brown and Indigenous women and women of color, as well as LGBTQ+, young, and unmarried women–5 are first time candidates, and all are looking to lift the voices of women in their communities. Many of these women are also running as trailblazers, such as LaMonica McIver who, if elected, would be the first woman to hold the seat. Emerge alums across NJ are at the frontlines of repowering political structures and bringing parity to office.

“Emerge alums are leading on the primary ballot and will show the power women have in our elections,” said Geri Jannarone, executive director of Emerge NJ. “These 12 women are running to flip seats from red to blue, compete in some of the most important elections in the country, and provide powerful new representation in office. As we look to elect more women in the New American Majority in NJ this year, Emerge alums and their success will be essential in making it happen. Good luck to all of our alums running in primaries and we look forward to seeing your names on the ballot in November.”
