JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) has announced that 1,274 undergraduate students have earned distinction for their academic success by being named to the Spring 2024 semester Dean’s List. Among the honorees, 271 students achieved a perfect 4.00 grade point average (GPA) during the term.

For a student to be eligible for Dean’s List accolades, they must earn a semester GPA average of 3.50 or better while enrolled in 12 or more countable credits.

Spring 2024 Dean’s list recipients by class include 232 freshmen, 448 sophomores, 264 juniors and 330 seniors.

The spring term saw a 7.97 percent increase in students with a perfect 4.0 compared to the Fall 2023 semester. Additionally, the senior class finished the academic year strong, with the 330 senior Dean’s list honorees rising substantially from 279 during the Fall semester — an 18.3 percent increase.

“Congratulations to all of our students who demonstrated academic excellence this spring and earned deserving recognition as Dean’s List recipients,” said Pia Stevens Haynes, M.S.E.D., MSW, the Dean of Students in NJCU’s Division of Student Development and Community Engagement. “Your exceptional academic achievements are impressive. Your consistent dedication to your studies and the pursuit of knowledge is truly commendable. The increase in students who achieved a 4.0 this spring is especially noteworthy. I applaud your achievements!”

The Spring 2024 Dean’s list continues the recent history of academic success by a large percentage of NJCU’s undergraduate student population.

By comparison, 1,280 students earned Dean’s List recognition in the Fall 2023 semester — 335 freshmen, 425 sophomores, 241 juniors and 279 seniors. In the spring 2023 semester, 1,318 students earned Dean’s List recognition — 346 freshmen, 404 sophomores, 301 juniors and 268 seniors, and 291 students scored a 4.00.

Students who conclude their undergraduate studies with a 3.65 GPA or better will graduate with honors and be recognized at Commencement as cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude, if their GPA equates to the following:
• 3.65-3.79 cum laude
• 3.80-3.89 magna cum laude
• 3.90-4.00 summa cum laude
