The 12th Annual Prom for Members of The Arc of Warren County Community Celebrated a Past Era

Washington, N.J., September 4, 2019 – The 12th Annual Prom for members of The Arc of Warren County’s community and their guests took place at Hawk Pointe Gulf Club recently.  Approximately 140 guests enjoyed the festivities at the event which celebrated a past era.  The prom’s theme was “That 70’s Prom: A Dressy Disco.”

Committee members for the event consisted of individuals who utilize the services of The Arc of Warren County.  They oversaw the event planning decisions for this opportunity under the management of Carinne Buzzuto, Self-Advocacy Advisory and Training Coordinator at The Arc of Warren County.  The prom was developed 12 years ago after a resident communicated that she regretted not going to her own high school program to a support staff employee, Vickey Heymach, who then spearheaded the initiative that first year, and one after. The fun-filled evening consists of dinner, games, dancing and naming of Prom King and Queen.

“The prom is a much anticipated experience for our guests and committee members,” says Buzzuto.  “Those who are involved in the process take ownership and pride in the planning that goes into this social occasion. Discussions and decisions about next year’s celebration are already in the works.”

The Arc is a national organization that serves individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and their family members since 1950.  The Arc of Warren County is one of 700 chapters of The Arc and serves more than 1,100 people annually for the past 65 years.  Programs include residential group homes and supervised apartments, day services, community based supports, advocacy services, recreation and summer camp, Special Olympics training, early intervention and a wide variety of additional social services.
