Political Insider and Obama White House Aide, Brad Jenkins, Gets Celebs and Candidates Fired Up About Issues in the New PodcastOne Show

Los Angeles, CA (July 9, 2019) – Known for entertaining and mobilizing millions of young people during his time as a White House Aide to President Obama, and Executive Producer of Funny or Die D.C., Brad Jenkins is teaming up with leading network, PodcastOne, for a new podcast titled after his goal in life – to get people Fired Up! He’ll engage audiences with an insider’s view into the hearts and minds of political leaders, actors, artists, influencers, and everyday heroes. In one-on-one interviews, Jenkins and his guests will dig deep to explore political issues and other things that get them fired-up to love, laugh and inspire. New episodes will be available every Tuesday on Apple Podcasts and PodcastOne.

The show’s inaugural guest is 2020 Presidential Candidate and New Jersey Senator, Cory Booker. During the personal conversation recorded in Booker’s home, the pair discussed empathy, the physical fight his father faced to move his family into a predominately white neighborhood, Jersey Shore and more. They also debate how to exit the New Jersey Turnpike, as Booker reveals how Star Wars impacts his decision-making, along with his plan to make the New York Giants a true New Jersey team. Below are excerpts from the interview:

On the New Jersey Giants

Booker: “Can I tell you a dream? And I’m running for President for every reason, but this. But should I become President of the United States, and the stars in the universe line up, and my team is the Super Bowl champions that year… I’m telling you, when they’re in the White House, I will turn to the world and say – it won’t be a slip of the tongue – I will say, ‘I am proud to be here with the New Jersey Giants.’ At that point, I figure I will have swagger, secret service, and the nuclear codes. Are they really going to step to me and correct me?”

Jenkins: “No, I think they’ll be fine with it. I think you’ll get – here’s the thing. New York, you’ve got enough. You took our Nets from us.”

Booker: “New York takes everything, even the mayors! Ed Koch was born in Jersey! Listen, 700,000 people from Jersey commute to New York. We are driving that city.”

Jenkins: “Just let us have one of the teams!”

Booker: “I don’t beg for anything. It’s not a beg, it’s a demand.”

On Exiting the New Jersey Turnpike

Jenkins: “When you’re driving on the Jersey Turnpike, do you take the ‘cars only’ exit or do you take the ‘cars, trucks, and buses’ exit?”

Booker: “So, you’re talking to a guy who grew up in the times of Star Wars. The movies have shaped my life -”

Jenkins: “Sure! You’re going trucks?”

Booker: “No, no, no, I’m getting to something, but clearly you’re not as much of a geek as I am. Because that is not – you don’t have a ‘hard and faster’ rule. What would Luke [Skywalker] do? He would trust the force. So, when I come, I literally am driving, I take a deep breath, and I feel the answer to that question, and I believe you just trust the force. And by the way, your eyes will deceive you…because you will look there, and it will look like there’s more traffic, but that is not what you go for.”

Jenkins: “Are you a Waze user?”

Booker: “Well, now Waze is changing…I feel like you have to respect truck drivers…When I’ve talked to truck drivers, I’ve done a lot on truck safety, especially from New Jersey. We’ve had horrible accidents involving trucks on our highways… Sometimes cars, they get nervous around trucks trying to pass…so I’m saying stay in the ‘cars’ [exit lane]…don’t listen to Waze.”

Jenkins: “You’re saying trust the force?”

Booker: “I’m saying that is a good philosophy for life. You’ve got to trust your instincts. Instincts are honed and developed over time, but when it comes to choosing a pathway on the turnpike, trust the force.”
