314 Action Endorses Incumbent Dr. Andrew Zwicker for State Assembly in New Jersey’s 16th District
Zwicker Is a PhD Physicist Named One of the Top 75 Contributors to Physics Education In the Country, and First Democrat to Represent His Current Seat
(Washington, D.C.) — Today, 314 Action announced its endorsement of Dr. Andrew Zwicker, who is running for State Assembly in New Jersey. 314 Action is the nation’s largest and only resource specifically created for scientists and STEM professionals seeking assistance running for office.
Andrew Zwicker released the following statement:
“As a physicist and a teacher, it isn’t about what I know but how I use my background to approach the problems we face in NJ and within the 16th District. It’s a way of thinking that, frankly, we need more of in Trenton — and in Washington too.
I believe in looking first at the facts. I believe in looking for what works — not what an ideology or partisan stand would dictate. And I believe in working with anyone and everyone who wants to solve a problem, meet a challenge, build a secure future.
314 Action Fund’s work to elect more candidates with science backgrounds is critical to getting our state and our country back on track and I am grateful for their endorsement. I have been proud to represent New Jersey’s 16th Legislative District and I will continue to fight to ensure a brighter future for our community.”
Founder and Board President of 314 Action Shaughnessy Naughton released the following statement:
“Andrew is living proof that scientists can win elections, and we are excited to support his re-election effort. As a PhD physicist, he has never been afraid of data and science when facing the issues that face his constituents. In his term as State Assemblyman, he has proven himself a leader on environmental issues and an effective legislator.”
About Andrew:
-
A PhD physicist who graduated from Johns Hopkins University, Andrew Zwicker is the Head of Science Education at the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory.
-
In his role at the Lab, where researchers are developing an advanced form of energy, Andrew has worked with hundreds of teachers and students, inspiring professionals and the next generation of STEM professionals. The American Association of Physics Teachers named Andrew as one of the country’s top 75 “Leading Contributors” to physics education.
-
Fed up with the attacks on science and wanting to make a bigger difference in his community and state, Andrew Zwicker was elected to the New Jersey State Assembly with the help of 314 PAC.
Andrew’s race:
-
Representing an ancestrally Republican area, Zwicker is the first ever Democrat to represent his district in the State Legislature.
-
Running in one of the closest races in the country in 2015, Zwicker beat an incumbent Republican by just 78 votes. Andrew is no stranger to tough races and Republicans are sure to throw everything they’ve got at him.
-
In less than two years in the State Assembly, Andrew has already become a leader on environmental issues and has had several bills he wrote passed into law. As the only scientist in the New Jersey State Legislature. Andrew needs your help today to be reelected.
314 Action has also endorsed challengers Jackie Rosen (Senate-NV) Hans Keirstead (CA-48) and Chrissy Houlahan (PA-6), as well as incumbents Jerry McNerney (CA-9), Paul Tonko (NY-20), and Louise Slaughter (NY-25).
