32BJ Applauds Court Order Blocking TPS Termination

The following statement can be attributed to Kevin Brown, vice president of 32BJ SEIU and New Jersey District Leader.

On the eve of what was supposed to be the first TPS expiration for American communities, it is a relief that a US District Court in California has blocked the termination of TPS for Haiti, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Sudan. For Sudanese families however, reprieve has come just weeks before termination, exemplifying the unacceptable, tenuous situation that more than 300,000 immigrants in our country are faced with.

TPS recipients are members of our communities, parents to more than 273,000 US-born children, business owners, friends, coworkers, spouses and neighbors. They are us.

Today we reiterate our call to Congress to create a permanent solution for members of our communities who have TPS. As the elections approach we look to candidates who are committed to standing up for TPS holders, their American born children and the communities that rely on them and benefit from their inclusion. This fight isn’t over yet.
