32BJ SEIU Responds to Candidate Bob Hugin’s Statement on Children Separated From Parents at the U.S. Border

The following statement is attributable to Kevin Brown, Vice President and New Jersey State Director of 32BJ SEIU:

While we commend U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin’s statement saying he opposes ‘children being separated from their parents,’ and agree that ‘it should stop immediately,’ Hugin needs to actually put actions to his words if he wants to prove that he can truly represent his electorate.

Hugin should be specific about what he’d do if he were elected to the Senate, including whether he would support legislation like Senate bill 3036, the Keep Families Together Act. His opponent, Sen. Bob Menendez, is one of the co-sponsors of the bill.

Children and infants, separated from their parents, are helplessly being placed in caging facilities without adequate food, care, and support.  We need a leader who will take fast and clear action against these harmful draconian policies and not only say what is needed to win an election.
