32BJ SEIU Statement in response to State Budget Impasse
This statement should be attributed to Kevin Brown, 32BJ Vice President and NJ State Director
Trenton “We urge state lawmakers to resolve the state budget dispute as quickly as possible for the good of the people of New Jersey. This 34.7-billion-dollar spending plan includes $150 million in new school aid and $200 million more for higher education and social safety net programs. These are issues that matter most to working people and most residents in the state.
There are no winners if there is a government shutdown. Residents and workers will pay the price if government offices, state parks and other facilities close. And finger pointing will lead to further divisions in the state house.
It’s time for legislators to put the people first, put their differences aside and vote on this budget immediately so that all New Jersey residents, including our 12,000 32BJ members, will have the services and resources they need to be healthy and secure.”
