4th Annual Christmas Wrapping Party

JCFD Captain Mark V Lee Sr. Christmas Fund Drive

Saturday,  December 9 | 10am – 4pm

WHAT:                 The JCFD Captain Mark V Lee Sr. Christmas Fund Drive has been a celebrated tradition since the 1980s and was formalized after the passing of Captain Mark V Lee Sr. of Engine Co. 10 in 2014, who led the annual toy drive for 27 years. On Saturday, December 9 Over 100 volunteers will gather at Saint Joseph R.C. Church to wrap toys for the 6,200 children and over 100 individual families that will benefit from this year’s fundraising.

Captain Mark V. Lee Sr. was honored by the PGA TOUR at this year’s opening ceremonies for the 2017 Presidents Cup which took place at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, NJ and was attended by former US Presidents Barack Obama,George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. With the support of the PGA TOUR, this year’s annual toy drive will additionally benefit The Children’s Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, over 400 special needs children throughout the New Jersey school system, The Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County and The Monee’s Outreach Services for Children with Autism.

WHO:                   Since the 1980s, members of Jersey City (NJ) Engine Co. 10 and Ladder Co. 12 on Halladay Street have collected and distributed toys for local underprivileged children so that they could have a Christmas. For 27-years, Captain Mark Lee of Engine Co. 10 led the Jersey City Fire Department Christmas Drive. He was a friendly, selfless man who enjoyed every bit of Christmas and helping others. Captain Lee spent many hours at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attack and later suffered from complications, including breathing problems. He passed away in May, 2014.

The Christmas duties of Captain Mark V. Lee Sr. live on with the members of the fire department and Lee’s family. Lee’s son, Mark Jr., is a member of 12 Truck and he and his sisters Jennifer and Christina have joined in on the holiday duties. Captain Lee’s wife, Cheryl, has taken over her husband’s holiday duties and is a strong force behind making the toy collection bigger and better every year. ***Interviews available upon request***
