Abdelaziz, Wimberly, and Sumter Respond to Assembly Chief of Staff’s Remarks
PATERSON, NJ – Assemblyman Al Abdelaziz, Senator Benjie Wimberly, and Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter issued the following statement:
“We are deeply troubled by the inflammatory and Islamophobic statements made by Justin Goldsman, Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Gary Schaer. His remarks, which reinforce harmful stereotypes and sow division, are unacceptable and have no place in public discourse.
“As public servants, we have a duty to uphold the values of respect, inclusion, and unity. Comments like these undermine those principles and foster division in our communities.
“We have spoken with Assemblyman Schaer regarding this matter and are confident that he does not share these views. He has already addressed the issue with his staff.
“At a time of heightened tensions, when communities seek solidarity, it is essential that we lead by example—promoting tolerance and mutual respect. We stand with all those affected by these offensive remarks and reaffirm our commitment to combating hate in all its forms.”
