ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (May 15, 2019) The Atlantic City Beach Patrol Benevolent Organization, with support of the City of Atlantic City, is hosting an inaugural fundraising event at historic Bader Field & the Bay in Atlantic City on Saturday May 18th beginning at 12pm. The “Race to Summer” boat races and lifeguard social welcomes supporters and lifeguards from all beach patrols, their families, friends, and any of those interested in enjoying a day of races, food and fun on the back bays of AC for a good cause. The event will feature: live music by Brother Jerome, The Flynn’s and Billy McMennamin, Mad Dog Morgan’s food truck, dessert trucks, a beer & wine garden, and a lifeguard themed Kids Zone. The race course will be staged at Bader Field and the bay and the start and finish lines will be situated in the main event area. Tickets are $12.00 with 100% of the proceeds going to the new Jr. Lifeguard Day Camps that will be held on the beaches of Atlantic City this coming July and August. “Atlantic City beaches are our treasure as are our children. We couldn’t be more excited to have our own Junior Lifeguard Camp in Atlantic City this summer,” said Mayor Frank M. Gilliam, Jr.

Atlantic City Beach Benevolent Organization (ACBPBO) is a non-profit organization established in 1920 by ACBP lifeguards. The ACBPBO is a philanthropic organization whose primary focus is to assist and support ACBP lifeguards, alumni, and their families. In recent years the ACBPBO has expounded on its charitable endeavors to help to support the Atlantic City community. We have currently implemented a Water Safety outreach program in the Atlantic City School System, offer several different scholarship programs to our members in need, and are now looking to expound on our in-school program with these planned beachfront summer camps. The Atlantic City Beach Patrol was established in 1891, it is the oldest and original organized Ocean Lifesaving Patrol in the United States.

ACBPBO Jr. Lifeguard Camps- The inaugural ACBPBO Junior Lifeguard Day Camps are planned to be a 5-week series of free mid-week day camps to be held on the beaches of AC beginning on Wednesday July 10th and scheduled to commence on Wednesday August 7th with an athletic competition and awards presentation. The camp will be open to ages 8 thru 13. Atlantic City residents will have 1st priority for registration. The camp will cover ocean safety, ocean rescue, CPR awareness & training, physical conditioning, and teach future potential ACBP members the skills necessary to someday join the patrol. Details of the camp curriculum coming soon. Registration available at the “Race to Summer” fundraiser and at Beach Patrol District stations starting Memorial Day weekend.
