ACS CAN Names DeAlmeida New Jersey Government Relations Director

TRENTON, NJ – September 4, 2018 – Brick, New Jersey resident Samantha DeAlmeida has been named the New Jersey Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).  In this post, DeAlmeida will oversee advocacy efforts promoting evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

Before joining ACS CAN DeAlmeida had been deputy director of government relations and policy at the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), since 2015. In that position, she worked with leadership, staff and membership to promote NJHA guided policies in Trenton and to work with other associations and industry experts to craft policy and amend legislation.

“New Jersey is facing crucial health care issues, including the need to protect all of our residents from the dangers of tobacco products,” said Bill Sherman, managing director of government relations of ACS CAN. “Samantha brings us a wealth of experience to help ACS CAN work to save lives and diminish suffering from cancer. She has maintained positive relationships with state leaders in all levels of government and advocacy.”

“ACS CAN works every day with government leaders and volunteers on crucial issues to help save lives and defeat cancer,” said DeAlmeida “I look forward to being part of the ACS CAN team to advocate our evidence-based policy proposals to our government leaders.”

Before joining the NJHA, DeAlmeida had been employed by the New Jersey state legislature as a policy analyst in the subject areas of: human services, consumer affairs, military & veterans’ affairs, and regulatory issues.

She also currently works as an adjunct political science professor at Brookdale Community College and serves as the director for a 501 c(3) nonprofit that provides equine assisted therapy to veterans.

Samantha holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, a Master’s Degree in public policy and a second Master’s Degree in homeland security from Monmouth University.
