For Immediate Release:
Action Together New Jersey Welcomes Trina Mallik as Trustee

MADISON, NJ, January 17, 2024 – Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ), leader in Vote By Mail and election infrastructure in New Jersey, announces the election of Trina Mallik to the Board of Trustees.

Joining Trustees who specialize in election law and public schools, Ms. Mallik fills a critical gap in ATNJ’s clean energy focus area. In her role as Vice President of Global Programs at the Institute for Sustainable Communities, Mallik has decades of experience in the climate change sector, which includes co-leading the effort to pass NJ’s Energy Efficient Appliance Standards, which Governor Murphy signed into law in 2022. A resident of Madison, Mallik is a well-known and respected leader who collaborates with leaders around the globe on our world’s most pressing issues, including sustainable solutions in climate justice. Her recent speaking engagements include contributing to the Renewable Thermal Collaborative and COP 28, as well as hosting a panel at the Indiaspora Climate Action Forum. Thanks to her and her colleagues’ work, the Institute for Sustainable Communities was recently awarded a $50 million grant from the EPA’s Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking program. This historic initiative will unlock systemic change for historically disinvested communities.

ATNJ is on a mission to improve voting rights and access, to advocate for clean energy, and to educate the public about serving on school boards. Earlier this month, ATNJ notched another historic win: advocating along with the League of Women Voters and The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, they helped shepherd the New Voter Empowerment Act—granting qualified 17-year-olds the right to vote in primary elections as long as they turn 18 on or before the general election—into law. Collaborating with more than 40 climate and environmental organizations, ATNJ also helped get the Community Solar Self-Attestation bill passed, lowering barriers to access and helping low- and moderate-income families realize monthly savings in their energy bills.

“The work of ATNJ has been concretely impactful to New Jerseyans. If you are one of more than a million voters who have used a secure ballot drop box and the Track My Ballot user portal, that’s the work of ATNJ. I look forward to helping ATNJ educate and advocate for increased clean energy access for our frontline communities here in New Jersey. The people who live in the transportation corridors and in the dense cities feel the effects of climate change acutely, from higher rates of asthma to higher energy costs. I am excited to contribute to ATNJ and to our larger community by serving on the Board,” said Mallik.
