Airbnb issues warning against NJ house parties this weekend

Airbnb today issued a reminder ahead of Halloween weekend that parties are banned in New Jersey listings and that the company may take legal action against guests who violate Airbnb’s rules prohibiting parties.

To strengthen our hosts’ protection against parties amid concerns about a second wave of the pandemic, we recently announced that we are prohibiting one-night reservations over the Halloween weekend in entire home listings in New Jersey and throughout the United States and Canada. The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts’ homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties. This action is designed to help protect our hosts and the communities they live in.

Guests with reservations of 2+ days this weekend have been required to attest that they understand that they may be subject to removal from Airbnb or legal action if they violate Airbnb’s rules on parties.

This comes on the heels of the company initiating a “party house” crackdown in New Jersey in July, suspending or removing 35 listings in the process, followed by announcing a global party ban in August.

Airbnb is also offering tips to local New Jersey hosts on protecting against unauthorized parties and being good neighbors, which can be found here.

Airbnb recently released a report outlining various measures to protect public health and help limit large gatherings, which can be found here.
