American Federation of Teachers NJ Endorses Tom Malinowski

The American Federation of Teachers announced their endorsement of Tom Malinowski in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional district over opponent, Republican incumbent, Rep. Leonard Lance. The AFT represents 30,000 members working in K-12 institutions, universities and community colleges throughout New Jersey.

“New Jersey voters have serious decisions to make about the future of our state and our nation within the next 100 days and part of our mission is to remind members of how much elections really matter,” said AFTNJ President Donna M. Chiera, a retired Perth Amboy teacher. “As Assistant Secretary of State, Tom Malinowski demonstrated his dedication to human rights, international diplomacy and workers’ rights, exhibiting qualities that will serve residents of the Seventh Congressional District well, wholeheartedly earning our endorsement.”

“I’m grateful to receive the endorsement of the AFT,” Malinowski said. “New jersey is a case study in that investing in educators, schools, and universities pays off in student performance and growth. As a Congressman I will fight to expand funding for education, from K-12 to higher education, and increase support for skilled education professionals.

Tom is committed to the core mission of the AFT: raising the standards of the teaching profession by securing better work conditions, advancing the voices of teachers and educational workers in implementing those standards, and promoting the welfare of children by providing progressively better education opportunities for all, regardless of race, color, creed, gender and social, political, economic status, handicap or disability.
