AMY KENNEDY ANNOUNCES GRASSROOTS PROGRAM TO HELP

CONNECT THE SOUTH JERSEY COMMUNITY DURING COVID-19 CRISIS

Kennedy: “In times like these we need to come together and support one another.”

Brigantine, NJ— Amy Kennedy, congressional candidate for New Jersey’s second district, announced today that she is inviting the community to join her in a series of virtual conversations the campaign is calling the Connecting South Jersey Community Facebook Live Series.  This grassroots program, which was launched several weeks ago, is a virtual series designed to serve the community during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Right now our communities are suffering and people are isolated.  People across South Jersey and America are grieving, whether for a loved one lost, a job they were fired from or a business they had to close. It’s in times like these that we need to come together, support one another, and adjust to a new way of life,” said Kennedy.  “I’m excited to announce this initiative from our campaign that meets people where they are and connects them with community resources.”

Kennedy is bringing in educators, law enforcement officials, mental and medical health experts to answer questions and provide guidance and resources to the community. In her first event, Sheriff Eric Scheffler joined her in a Facebook live, answering questions about mental health and addiction resources and how to practice self-care while under quarantine.

Last week Kennedy connected with Brigantine Superintendent Glenn Robbins, to discuss how schools are tackling online learning. This past Saturday, she was joined by behavioral scientist, Steve Crimando and Sheriff Eric Scheffler to show Atlantic County residents the new COVID testing site while answering questions about how to get tested and deal with mental health during the pandemic. This Wednesday, she’ll be talking to Martha Arrizon, a Salem teacher, on how teachers can connect with their students virtually.

In the coming weeks, Kennedy will host Facebook Live events on a variety of topics including:

  • Impacts of mental health and addiction during the COVID-19 pandemic with Vivek Murthy, physician and 19th Surgeon General of the United States
  • How to stay active and healthy during COVID-19 with a medical professional
  • The impact of social distancing and COVID-19 on loneliness and mental health with a mental health professional
  • How to talk to your children about COVID-19 with a mental health professional
  • How food banks are helping those in need and how you can help with a local community leader
  • The racial disparities in healthcare and their consequences during a global pandemic with a healthcare expert
