Amy Kennedy Endorsed by Members of the Family of Late Congressman William J. Hughes
Brigantine, NJ — Today, family members of late Congressman and Ambassador William J. Hughes endorsed the candidacy of Amy Kennedy for New Jersey’s second congressional district, formerly held by the ten-term Representative.
The elder Hughes was first elected to represent South Jersey’s second Congressional District in 1974 and retired in 1995, when he was appointed to be the United States Ambassador to Panama.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of members of the Hughes family, who carry the legacy of service of the late Congressman William J. Hughes” said Amy Kennedy, candidate for New Jersey’s Second Congressional District. “Like my father and my father-in-law before me, who both worked closely with Congressman Hughes, I look forward to continuing a bond that has led to service and leadership for the South Jersey community.”
Barbara Sullivan and Bill Hughes, put out the following statement:
“Forty-six years ago, our father was first elected to Congress on the single premise that our voices in South Jersey needed to be heard in Washington. From cleaning up our shores through to establishing the world’s premier aviation research facility, our father’s impact upon the Second Congressional District is still seen today. His many achievements were the result of team efforts by dedicated public officials bound together by the simple guiding principle of placing the public good above politics.”
“Amy Kennedy will continue our Dad’s legacy of service, integrity and dedication to people of the Second Congressional District and the nation. As a former public-school teacher, public advocate for mental health issues and mother of five, Amy has proven her commitment to public service and family values first instilled by her parents. She is a life-long resident of South Jersey and understands the challenges, needs and opportunities of our wonderful communities. We need a strong leader who will represent South Jersey, and we believe that Amy Kennedy will once again restore South Jerseys’ voice in Congress.”
Barbara Hughes Sullivan, the Executive Director of a national non-profit organization that represents and advocates for seniors aging in community, and attorney William J. Hughes, Jr. made the announcement.
This endorsement is just one in a long list of endorsements for Amy Kennedy, including: End Citizens United, Communication Workers of America, New Jersey Education Association, NJ CD 2 Progressive Democrats, NJ Working Families Alliance, Equality PAC and Taking the Hill PAC.
