Amy Kennedy Releases Veterans Policy
Brigantine, NJ – Today, Amy Kennedy, candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s second district, released a veteran’s policy, outlining her plan to ensure veterans and military families have access to the health, economic and social resources they need.
Veterans are a core part of South Jersey’s identity and community. More than 350,000 veterans live in New Jersey, and the counties with the highest concentration of veterans—Cape May, Salem, Ocean, and Burlington—are all in our district. Veterans make up almost nine percent of the population of Cape May County, which is also the proud home of the fifth-largest Coast Guard base and sole accession point for the service’s entire enlisted corps.
The core of Kennedy’s plan includes: expanding access to mental health and addiction treatment, ensuring all South Jersey veterans have access to local health care, reforming and strengthening the Veterans Administration, helping veterans transition back into their communities from active duty, supporting military families, ensuring all veterans receive fair and just treatment, protecting veterans from COVID-19 and empowering local veteran leadership.
“As a nation, we must be willing to honor our veterans by fighting for policies that ensure access to the support and resources they need,” said Amy Kennedy. “Even during the coronavirus pandemic, our veterans are serving on the front lines, playing a critical role responding to COVID-19. I am honored to put together a plan that outlines my specific commitment to the veterans and military families in our district, and across the country.”
Patrick Murphy, Iraq War veteran and Former U.S. Secretary of the Army, said, “Amy Kennedy understands the needs of veterans and has laid out a thoughtful and comprehensive plan that addresses the issues our community is facing. Amy knows that supporting veterans is both a moral and an economic imperative. We need leaders in Congress like Amy, who are willing to make a commitment to the brave men and women who proudly serve our country.”
“I am grateful to Amy Kennedy for making a commitment to fight for veterans’ issues in our community,” said Vietnam Army veteran, host of the Welcome Home Veterans Radio Show and veterans advocate, Joe Griffies. “Amy has put in the work and really dug in to understand the issues veterans are facing in South Jersey. I am proud to support her in her bid for Congress. I know Amy will be a champion for veterans, and our families, and that getting us the resources we need will be one of her top priorities.”
