Amy Tibbetts Announces Candidacy For City of Trenton West Ward City Council

Dear West Ward Residents,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Amy Tibbetts and I am running for Trenton City Council as the West Ward Representative. I am 38 years old and have been married to my husband, Justin Tibbetts, for over 10 years. We have 2 ½ year old identical twin boys. We have resided in the City’s Glen Afton neighborhood for just about three years. Prior to residing in Glen Afton, I grew up on Chambers Street. I attended St. Joachim’s church, as well as, St. Joachim’s Catholic School. I played Chambersburg Little League and put myself through college by working at many of the restaurants in the Burg. I graduated from Rider University with honors and hold a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice. While attending Rider, I did an extensive 2 year internship with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Trenton Bureau. I am also a member of the San Felese Society of New Jersey.

I spent my entire 14 year career working for the New Jersey State Legislature. When I left to raise my children, I departed as the Executive Director of the Joint Committee on Public Schools. I worked on bipartisan educational issues and policy, hand in hand, with the Chair Senator Ronald L. Rice (Newark) and Co-Chair Deputy Speaker Assemblywomen Mila M. Jasey (27LD). My committee was comprised of 14 members of the Legislature, 7 Senators and 7 Assemblypeople, of both parties. Based on my Executive Level experience with the State Legislature I feel I am the most qualified person to represent the West Ward.

The current West Ward Councilmen’s lack of leadership and concern with our continued water quality situation tells me he does not have the courage or overall leadership it takes to be in that seat. He has shown he will not ask the tough questions or call for the appropriate resignations. Wherever you reside in the city we all drink the same water and the continued failures and oversights are unacceptable.
Many of my fellow candidates do not know the actual responsibilities of a City Councilor and are promising things they honestly cannot and do not have the power or authority to do. My platform is quite simple under the legal authority of City Council:

• 1st Produce a fiscally responsible budget on time every year and explore avenues to cut wasteful spending.
• 2nd Be the checks and balances to the Administration and not being afraid to be the NO vote if something is not right.
• 3rd With my experience writing legislation and policy at the State level, I can help to develop or improve ordinances and resolutions that benefit us here in the West Ward.

I WILL NOT sit here and promise you community cleanups, fundraisers, ribbons cuttings or photo opts. Those are not the job of a City Councilor. I can promise you a responsible and honest Councilwomen who can raise the bar and be a voice and a vote for us here in the Capital City!

Sincerely,
Amy C. Tibbetts, Candidate City of Trenton West Ward City Council
