Andy Kim Announces Endorsement from the

New Jersey Education Association (NJEA)

MARLTON, NJ — Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced the endorsement of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), adding to a long list of professional associations, unions, and building trades.

“Congressman Andy Kim is clearly the voice we need in Washington right now,” said NJEA President Marie Blistan. “He is a proven advocate for public education, union members, and middle-class families. In his first term in Congress he earned an A from NEA (National Education Association) for his voting record on education and issues of importance to NJEA both active and retired members, from preschool educators to higher education. I’m proud to support him.”

Congressman Kim’s record includes support of:

  • Increased federal funding for public schools, particularly for students in need

  • Programs to promote children’s health and wellness such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, as well as school meals and nutrition programs.

  • Strengthening support for new teachers, quality professional development, and incentives for recruiting and retaining teaching candidates from under-represented groups.

  • Holding charter schools to the same high standards of accountability and transparency as traditional public schools.

  • Making college more affordable.

  • Collective bargaining rights and worker protections.

  • Opportunities to ensure our democracy works for all through updating the Voting Rights Act to add voter protections, adequate funding for the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights and updating the Civil Rights Act to include protections based on gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

In addition to the NJEA, Andy has been endorsed by the United Steelworkers, Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, SEIU New Jersey State Council, New Jersey Laborers Union (LiUNA), International Association of Sheet Metal, Air & Rail Transportation Workers (SMART), the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers (Boilermakers), the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey (PFANJ), ATU New Jersey State Council, Ironworkers Local 399, UA Local 322, Plumbers, Pipefitters and HVAC Service Technicians, Teamsters Joint Council 53 and Local 676, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers of New Jersey, the Communication Workers of America Local 1036 and Local 1032, The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), the New Jersey State Association of Letter Carriers, and the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey (AFTNJ). Andy also has the support of the American Postal Workers Union, the National Treasury Employees Union, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and the Air Line Pilots Association, among others.

Without taking support from corporate PACs, the campaign raised more than $1 million in the second fundraising quarter of 2020. The campaign has raised more than $4.3 million in the 2020 cycle, and currently has more than $3.5 million cash on hand. The campaign has put itself in a strong position to win what is widely expected to be one of the most competitive races in the country this fall. Of individual donations to Kim’s campaign, 90 percent were $100 or less, demonstrating continued grassroots support that helped him win in 2018.

Congressman Kim has been listed as part of the DCCC’s Frontline program and has been endorsed by government reform groups like End Citizens United PAC and the Patriotic Millionaires; national security and veterans groups like VoteVets, Serve American PAC, Foreign Policy for America, and Council for a Livable World; progressive groups like the League of Conservation Voters and Planned Parenthood Action Fund; and advocacy organizations like Brady PAC, Emgage Action and Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), among other organizations.

Congressman Kim grew up in Marlton, NJ and lives in the district with his wife, Kammy, and two young children. He previously served as the Director for Iraq and the Counter-ISIS fight at the White House National Security Council and as a strategic adviser to top generals in Afghanistan.
