Andy Kim Slams MacArthur for Fundraising with Chief Opponent of Sandy Relief Bill

As Congressman, Mick Mulvaney Authored Amendment to Block Sandy Relief Package

SEASIDE PARK, NJ – Andy Kim slammed Congressman Tom MacArthur’s decision to campaign with Trump White House OMB Director Mick Mulvaney. Mulvaney, a former Congressman from South Carolina, authored a so-called “poison pill” amendment in the House that would have killed Sandy aid. Rep. Jon Runyan, the Congressman from NJ’s third district at the time, slammed Mulvaney’s amendment, pleading “my friends should ask themselves what would they do if it was their district that suffered the amount of catastrophic loss that many of the families and businesses in my district now face.”

“Families here down the shore are still suffering losses and rebuilding from Sandy. Hosting a fundraiser with another friend of Wall Street, a man who tried to block relief funding to rebuild during the storm, is as tone deaf as it gets and disrespectful to the people of New Jersey,” Kim said.

The third Congressional district in southern New Jersey stretches from the Philadelphia suburbs to the Jersey shore. The district voted for President Obama twice and Democrats hold a party registration advantage. Andy Kim is listed as one of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s ‘Red to Blue’ top priorities for  2018. Andy Kim grew up in Marlton, NJ and lives in the area with his wife, Kammy, and two young children. He previously served in Afghanistan as a strategic adviser to Generals David Petraeus and John Allen, and worked under Democrats and Republicans focused on keeping our nation safe.
